Tokens of my Heart

Ever since I can remember, I have always enjoyed creating gifts to give to friends and loved ones rather than going out and buying a ready-made item. Not only do I find myself  indulging in the process of making something completely unique, I also take pride in the fact that the recipient knows that there is a part of me that I also gave away; something personal, something from my heart.

I remember, years before (waaaaaay back when.. gosh, has it really been that long ago???) I used to do a variety of crafts like crocheting purses that I would give out at Christmas, or crocheting backpacks for my high school buddies. I used to also make picture frames and even little scrapbooks for simple occasions.  The joy of creating has always been with me and I only hope that these tokens of myself are much appreciated by those who received them.

But lately, it has been cards that I have been making. Maybe it’s because they are the simplest, easiest little things to finish since I have had my hands quite full lately. Recently, I went through my albums of work I did before and I came across these two cards I made back in 2009. It’s been that long! Glad to have recovered them to share with y’all today!

Originally, there were three cards in this series. I made a Friendship, Love and Birthday card, but I sent the birthday card to my friend before I got the chance to take any photos of it. I used the same color scheme and patterned paper for all three cards.

“Friends are Like Flowers” Card

With a 2.5″ puncher, I created “windows” in the front of the card. I also used a cardstock sticker for the title and layered it in coordinating cardstock for dimension.

With brads, I affixed the prima flowers on the pink border strip and then used eyelets to hold that in place. Another sticker from the same friendship sheet I used in front completed the inside sentiment.

“Together” Card

For the title, I used Cricut Cartridge Graphically Speaking and used pop dots (which I am also very fond of using) to give it a raised effect.

Instead of using glue (which will just show through the vellum), I used  eyelets to hold the words “Through thick & thin” on layers of squares and strip of pink borders for the vellum background, too.

For the inside, I used vellum from the quote stack I have and the sentiment says “Two people who belong together make a world! ~ Hans Margolius”. Lovely quote and very apt for this card.

Many thanks for reading! Till next post!!

Krystal

Scraps n’ Stuff

When life gives you scraps, make something with them.  ~Author Unknown

So what we did with our scraps was make some cards with them. Using left over bits of paper, we pulled out our stamps, inks and added a few scraps of ribbon as well to create these easy-to-make everyday cards. It’s a great way to use the small pieces of paper that can no longer be used for photo mats. I never throw any scrap paper away unless it is smaller than the smallest puncher in my drawer 🙂 also, with the help of my Cricut, we can still cut out little letters or shapes… as you see in the Happy Birthday/Hugs n Kisses cards that were made by my staff, Plinky 🙂

So the next time you are working on something, and before throwing any bit of paper away, make sure you save what can be used for another project 🙂

With strips of paper, you can create a weaved effect for accenting your pages,  or use your Alpha stamps on them, use the bits of paper to adhere stickers on, create tags or tiny notes that you can easily add to your projects with brads or eyelets.

Whatever your project is that you will use your scraps on, remember this quote I absolutely love…

“Scrapbooking isn’t about scraps of paper and photos.  Scrapbooking is about scraps of life – yours and those special to you.”  ~Rebecca Sower

Happy scrappin’!
